Overview
The 2011 Volvo S40 is available in two trim levels - T5 and R-Design. The S40 compact sport sedan excels in Volvo's majestic virtues of safety, performance, design and technology. The minor changes for this model year make the three models of S40 even more attractive.
Power and performance
There is only one engine is available as Volvo has dropped manual transmissions from the S40 line. A 227-hp, turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder with 236 pounds-feet of torque and a five-speed automatic transmission provide power to the FWD S40. Drivers can shift gears through the optional automatic transmission. All-wheel drive has also been dropped from the S40.
Body and styling
The S40 T5, the new FWD (non-R-Design) model, is now the base S40 sedan. Its grille receives a larger Iron Mark logo. Some of its key features are leather seating surfaces and leather gearshift knob added to Preferred Package, Electronic Climate Control (ECC) added to Climate Package and Volvo Navigation System with Real Time Traffic, remote control and Map Care added to Multimedia Package. The new stand-alone options include Sirius satellite radio, Keyless Drive and rear park assist. Flamenco Red is a new exterior color choice.
The S40 T5 R-Design AWD model of the last year has been discontinued. The S40 T5 R-Design comes with standard power glass moonroof, standard power passenger seat, a larger Iron Mark logo on the grille and 17-inch "Cratus" alloy wheels. Electronic Climate Control (ECC) has been added to Climate Package. The Volvo Navigation System now includes Real Time Traffic, remote control and Map Care added to Multimedia Package and Sirius satellite radio, Keyless Drive and rear park assist are among the new stand-alone options.
Safety Features
The 2011 Volvo S40 offers wide range of safety features which outperform other cars in the segment. Its standard safety features include dual-stage airbags for driver and front passenger, side-impact protection system, side-impact airbags for driver and front passenger, inflatable side curtains, head restraints for all seats and whiplash protection system. It also equipped with ISOFIX/Latch attachment system for children safety, daytime running lights, DSTC anti-skid system, intelligent driver information system (IDIS), ABS with electronic brake assistance (EBA) and side marker lights.
