Overview
The 2013 Volvo S60 sets the standard for the modern sport sedans with impressive horsepower, all-wheel drive and exceptionally tuned driving dynamics. Volvo has introduced a unique Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake in the new S60 debuted at the New York Auto Show.
Power and performance
A sporty, upgraded and a more powerful version of an in-line 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbocharged engine (T6) currently offered in the XC60 premium crossover supplies power to the new S60. All T6 models come standard with Volvo's all wheel- drive system. Rated at 300 horsepower and a stout 325 lb.-ft.of torque, this engine's power is transmitted to the wheels via Volvo's second-generation six-speed automatic Geartronic transmission. The S60 can hold 16.2 cubic feet of cargo.
Body and styling
The 2013 Volvo S60 rides on 18-inch alloy wheels with Daytime running lights and dual xenon gas discharge headlights with active bending lights. The interior is a study in design and materials. Ergonomically designed power front sport seats, folding two-split 60/40 rear seat, electronic climate control, power windows, cruise control and blind spot information system are among the key features.
A High Performance Audio System with eight loudspeakers is specially designed to match the acoustics in Volvo and feature more robust magnets, larger coils and fiberglass cones for excellent transient reproduction, high power, low distortion and great durability. The new S60 is also equipped with a portable navigation system, Bluetooth hands-free system, auxiliary input/USB port and SIRIUS Satellite Radio with a six-month introductory subscription.
Climate, Multimedia, Premium and Technology packages are available.
Safety Features
The Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake in the new S60 is an innovative technological solution that actively helps the driver avoid accidents. Volvo's radar- and camera-based system detects pedestrians in the front, warns the driver if anyone walks out into its path - and then automatically activates the S60's full braking power if the driver fails to respond in time. This world-first technology can help the driver avoid a collision with a pedestrian.
The S60 is the first sedan in the market equipped with Advanced Stability Control. Corner Traction Control is a new feature that uses torque vectoring for smoother cornering. This technology is a further refinement of the Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC).
